Shrek is a 2001 animated comedy from the United States based on the 1990 Shrek storybook by William Steig.
In the story, an ogre named Shrek finds his swamp flooded with fairy tales that have been dumped by the corrupt god Farquaad (Lithgow) who dreams of becoming king.
Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad to regain swamp control in return for saving Princess Fiona, who intends to marry Farquaad.
With the help of Donkey, Shrek starts his business but soon falls in love with the princess, who hides a secret that will change her life forever.
