Have you ever eaten a longan? This fruit comes from southern China and is shaped like a duku or lychee. The skin is tanned, thin, coarser than lychee, and easy to peel. The fruit is white, transparent and sweet.
Longan means dragon eye in Chinese. So named because of the shape of the fruit after peeling like a dragon’s eyeball. The seeds are round and black and shiny and visible behind the fruit flesh that is transparent really makes longan like eyes.
Longan contains calcium, iron, phosphorus, niacin, protein, and vitamins A, B, and C.
